Privacy Policy
Short, because there is little to describe. Boardsmith has no accounts, no cloud and no analytics, and your work never leaves your machine.
Last updated 29 August 2026.
The whole of it, in four lines. Your projects, decks and artwork never leave your computer. There is no account and no sign-in. Usage telemetry is off unless you switch it on. I never see your card details.
Who is responsible
Yurii Petrov, an individual entrepreneur registered in Ukraine, is the data controller for what is described here. Boardsmith is made by one person, so that person is also the one who answers this mail. Contact: support@boardsmithapp.com.
What the application sends
Your work: nothing, ever
Blueprints, decks, artwork, card text, exported files — none of it is uploaded anywhere. Boardsmith is a desktop application that reads and writes folders on your own disk. There is no cloud storage to opt out of, because there is none.
The update check
On startup Boardsmith asks this website whether a newer version exists, and you can turn that off in Settings. Like any web request it tells my server your IP address, the app version and your platform. I do not build a profile from it.
Usage telemetry — off by default
If you switch it on in Settings, the app reports a handful of events so I can tell which parts of it are used: a random installation id the app invents for itself, the event name, a few numbers (how many cards a deck has, which kind of export you ran), the app version, and your platform.
It never includes file contents, file paths, project names, or anything typed onto a card. The id is random rather than derived from your machine, so these events cannot be traced back to you — which also means that if you later ask me to delete them, I have no way to find which ones are yours.
Licence activation
If you buy Pro and enter a key, the key is sent once to my server, which asks Freemius whether it is valid. I keep a record of the activation for support — a SHA-256 hash of the key, its last six characters, the random device id the app generated, whether it was an activation or a release, the platform, the version and the date.
The key itself is never stored. The hash exists so that when you email me quoting your key I can find its history and answer "why does it say three machines?"; the last six characters let a human confirm it is the right one.
Nothing is read off your hardware. The device id is random, which is why replacing a drive or reinstalling your operating system does not cost you a seat.
What this website collects
- The beta form — your email address and which platform you use, stored so I can send you an invite. Nothing else, and it is not sold, shared or used for unrelated mail.
- Server logs — this site runs on Cloudflare, which keeps ordinary request records (IP address, user agent, what was requested) for security and abuse prevention.
- No cookies, no analytics, no trackers. There is no Google Analytics, no pixel, no advertising script and no consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to.
Payments
Boardsmith Pro is sold through Freemius as merchant of record. They take the payment and hold the billing details; I never receive or store your card number. What reaches me is the fact of the order and the licence attached to it. Freemius' own privacy policy covers what they hold.
Why I am allowed to hold any of this
| Licence activation records | Performance of the contract — proving and supporting your licence |
| Beta email address | Your consent, given when you submitted the form |
| Usage telemetry | Your consent, given by turning the switch on |
| Server logs | Legitimate interest in keeping the service up and unabused |
How long it is kept
- Beta emails: until the beta ends, or until you ask me to remove yours.
- Activation records: while the licence exists, since that is what they are for.
- Telemetry: it is anonymous, and is kept as aggregate counts.
- Server logs: as long as Cloudflare's own retention keeps them.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, withdraw a consent you gave, or object to a use. Email support@boardsmithapp.com and I will answer. If you are in the EU or the UK you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
Turning telemetry off in Settings stops it immediately, and no further events are sent.
Children
Boardsmith is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 16.
