Terms of Use
Plain terms for a desktop application you buy once. What you make with Boardsmith is yours, entirely.
Last updated 29 August 2026.
1. Who you are dealing with
Boardsmith is made and operated by Yurii Petrov, an individual entrepreneur registered in Ukraine — one person, not a company ("I", "me"). You can reach me at support@boardsmithapp.com.
These terms cover the Boardsmith application and this website. Purchases are not made from me directly. Boardsmith Pro is sold through Freemius, which acts as the merchant of record: Freemius is the seller for the transaction, collects the payment, charges and remits any VAT or sales tax, and issues your invoice. Their terms govern the purchase itself; these terms govern the software you get.
2. What you are licensed to do
You get a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Boardsmith, personally or commercially, for as long as you like.
- The free version is not a trial. It does not expire, does not nag, and is not time-limited. Use it forever if it does what you need.
- Pro is a perpetual licence activated with a key. It may be active on up to three machines at a time, and you can release a machine from inside the app to free its place.
- Updates are included for twelve months from purchase. When that period ends your key and your installed version keep working exactly as before; only newer versions stop being available to you. Renewing is optional.
3. What you make is yours
Everything you create with Boardsmith — your blueprints, decks, artwork, and every file you export — belongs entirely to you. Sell it, print it, crowdfund it, publish it. I claim no ownership, take no royalty, and place no restriction on commercial use, now or later. You do not need to credit Boardsmith, though I will not stop you.
One thing to keep in mind: fonts, artwork and icons that you bring into a project carry whatever licence their author gave them, and that is between you and them. Boardsmith does not change it.
4. What you may not do
- Resell, sublicense or redistribute the application itself, or share your licence key.
- Work around the licence check, or use a key you did not buy.
- Reverse engineer the software, except to the extent the law expressly allows you to regardless of this clause.
If a key turns out to be refunded, charged back or otherwise invalid, the Pro features stop. Nothing else does: the free version and everything you have already made keep working.
5. Changes, and what happens if I stop
Boardsmith checks for updates and can install them. Features may be added, changed or removed as the software develops.
If I ever stop selling or developing Boardsmith, the version you have installed keeps working — nothing about it depends on my servers staying up — and I will publish a build with the licence check removed. A project you start here should never become a project you cannot finish.
6. Printing is your call
This is the part that matters most for this particular product, so it is worth saying plainly rather than burying. Boardsmith produces files. Whether a printer accepts them, and how the ink actually lands, is outside my control. Colour conversion to CMYK is an approximation of what a press will do; a backlit screen is not a promise about paper; and print shops change their specifications without telling me.
Check your files, read the export warnings, and order a proof before a full run. I cannot be responsible for the cost of a print run that did not come out as you hoped.
7. No warranty, and the limit of what I owe
Boardsmith is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind beyond those the law requires. To the fullest extent the law permits, my total liability to you for anything arising out of the software or these terms is limited to the amount you actually paid for your licence.
I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses — lost profits, lost data, the cost of a print run, or a missed campaign deadline. Keep backups; Boardsmith keeps its own, but they live on the same disk as everything else.
8. Your rights as a consumer
Nothing here takes away rights you have under mandatory consumer law where you live. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, those protections apply in full whatever this page says.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Ukraine, except that consumers keep the mandatory protections and the courts of their own country of residence, where local law gives them that.
10. Changes to these terms
I may update this page; the date at the top says when it last changed. A change does not retroactively reduce the licence you have already bought — the terms you bought under keep covering that purchase.
